Kesey

Kesey is a collie who was abandoned at Melton Hill Lake, which isn't far from our house. I was walking Xena, and we saw him standing in the parking lot looking bewildered. His coat was a mess, very matted, and he was cold and wet. Needless to say, Xena and I put him in the truck, took him to a vet, had him groomed and made a half-hearted attempt to find a home for him. He's become a great member of the pack, sort of taking Bubba's role as the elder male. He likes to bark when things are getting exciting, just like Bubba did. He's very gentle. When I first brought him home I was a bit worried because he got aggressive toward the other dogs when food was tossed into the mix, but he got over that pretty quickly, once he realized everyone gets his or her share. Vet estimates he's about 10 or 11 years old. So far, his health has been good, but he definitely is having some hip problems. And his name? Given the recent death of my favorite prankster, Ken Kesey, I decided a tribute was in order. Though my brother Steve insists he looks like a Leonard. Hmmm ...
