| By the
time we pull into a parking lot at the southwest end of the reservoir, rain
is already beginning to fall and the the wind is picking up. Tony, Jason
and I ride off, with Tony riding in front and Jason behind me.
The ride begins with an ascent I can handle -- barely -- and then heads downhill for a bit until we come to a Y in the trail. I look hopefully at the section that goes down, but Tony points up -- straight up a rock-strewn hill that's more stream than trail. I dismount and begin pushing my bike, stopping several times to sip water along the way. It's a brutal climb, but it's worth it. After cresting, we stream down the other side. We catch a remarkable view of Talybont Reservoir with mountains huddled around it.
