at the annual appalachian stringband music festival in west virginia (clifftop), there is actually a "no chicken tune" area. 'not sure if they would allow "turkey in the straw" or not...
Posted by: jo at January 12, 2004 11:25 AMHow the hell have you had time to transfer your entire CD collection to your iPod? Did you get laid off? I have had mine for two months and have exactly ONE cd on it.
Posted by: Leanne at January 12, 2004 6:15 PMYou missed the present progressive there. That transfer is still happening. I'm through the As and Bs, and I've put almost my entire Grateful Dead collection on the iPod. I have 755 songs, 2.6 days worth of music so far. But I'm pretty sure I'll be able to get my entire CD collection on there ... (I still have 36GB of space left.)
Damn. I love this thing.
Posted by: Benz at January 12, 2004 8:46 PM'Tis true about the short-lived iPod battery. Look at this:
Posted by: Leanne at January 13, 2004 2:19 AMI've seen that. Apple apparently is now offering a replacement battery, but they want $100 bucks to install it. The original battery supposedly lasts only 18 months. That replacement battery should be free.
I've had the same problem with other cool toys. My Tivo modem fried and I've also had a hard drive go bad on one. I think that's part of the risk of being an early adopter. But it doesn't mean the company can abdicate responsibility. Will be interesting to see what Apple does from here. The site you list isn't the only one of its ilk out there.
Another odd offshoot of this: The zealous blindness of the converted. When Tivo started going goofy, a lot of Tivo fanatics attacked the people who were complaining. Apple nuts are the same way. The get so blinded by their technical obsession that they believe it can do no wrong and anyone who criticizes it must be crazy. I'm enamored of both Apple and Tivo, but believe me, when that battery goes bad, I'll be howling in indignation if Apple doesn't have a better answer than a $100 battery that probably will last only another 18 months.

It's an attorney fishing for customers for a class-action lawsuit againt Apple.
Posted by: Leanne at January 13, 2004 10:23 AMAh, the vultures are circling. Gotta love those attorneys. I've gotten checks recently for $35.06 and .98 cents for various class action settlements that I wasn't even aware I was part of. Somehow I suspect the attorneys driving these things saw more cash in the end than I did.

Funny, in this book I'm reading about country music, I just read about Ralph Stanley performing "Cluck Old Hen." Never heard of the song before.
