Well, that didn't work ...

So I upgraded Movable Type, but it did nothing to deter spam. They found it almost immediately, even with directories named differently. So I'm now trying Real Comment Throttle to see if I can stop them from hammering the server so hard that my ISP sends me warning notices saying my CPU use is too high.

Well, I know you love it so, but it may be time to hose Movable Type (dodges lightning bold).

It's going the way of the Dinosaur, the Wooly Mammoth, and the Saber-Toothed Kazmaier

Actually, I think I have it now. I made several tweaks and I haven't had a spam attack since the final one was done. And the new version of MT does make it easier to handle spam. It's pretty slick. It's the load it's putting on my ISP's CPUs that has me in trouble.

I have switched to dynamic pages, added the Real Comment Throttle and changed the name of the comment script. With those three changes, things are looking a lot better. I did think about jumping to Word Press but just wasn't eager to make the transition if I didn't have to ....

Cool. Glad you don't have to go through all that trouble, really.

Spam has gotten so bad for me and email that I've actually got my email forwarded through a couple ISP's to my gmail. The other ISP's filter a good deal of it before it gets to gmail, then gmail takes care of the rest. I'm still getting around 20/day though.

If all that spam were accurate my life could be described as "Super rich online casino jackpot winner and online stock trader has many lovely ladies seeking to meet him and his super-enhanced, Viagra-inflated manhood".
