Saddam Hussein, Britney Spears fan

News reports say there was a poster of Britney Spears on the wall of one of Saddam Hussein's now-ruined palaces. Britney frickin' Spears! This, in a country where they require women to wrap themselves in head-to-toe chadors. Are these guys conflicted or what?

Apparently, looters (er, excuse me, Liberated Iraqis) were seen carting paintings of half-naked women out of the presidential palaces. I guess Saddam was like a lot of world leaders when it comes to religion. It's a convenient tool when dealing with the unwashed masses in the public sphere, but in private, it's a different story.

That's why I'll always respect Jesse Ventura. Even though he's so strange in so many ways, he wasn't afraid to call it as he saw it:

"Organized religion is a sham and a crutch for weak-minded people who need strength in numbers."

Well, Hussein's always been reviled by the true believers because he is (was?) so secular.

Makes sense in a way...who is Britney if not a harem girl who's sold her act to Pepsi and paraded it onstage instead of keeping it in the harem where she belongs.

A hearty "Amen" to Jesse Ventura's comment.
