You ship it, they rip it ...
Interesting business model that's being spawned by the iPod/portable digital music craze. These guys offer to burn your entire CD collection and send it back to you so you can easily put it on your iPod. Cool idea, but I'm not sure if the pricing is quite there. At about $1/CD, that adds up if you own a lot of music.
Then again, I'm still transferring my CDs to my computer after several days, and I'm only in the C's.

i would think that insuring and shipping your collection would nearly double the cost. not to mention the hassle of it all...

Posted by: Benz at January 16, 2004 12:56 PMI can't imagine even trying to transfering my entire CD collection to an iPod.
Posted by: Howard Owens at January 16, 2004 11:44 PMi never cease to be amazed by ups. the fact that they will deliver stuff right to my door for $3-$10 fascinates me. i can see where they could turn a profit in the city but i'm figuring that the odds of them having another delivery within 5 to 10 miles of me, on any given day, is pretty remote. i'd rather buy things online than deal with the suburban traffic that i have to fight to go to the store myself. what a great country!

That's a novel business idea. I bet there are some busy sorts with more money than time who will go for it.
I have, like, 1,000 CDs. And a toddler. And a more-than- fulltime job. I won't be able to get even half my collection on the iPod until Lu goes off to college -- or I quit my job and devote myself to getting them all on there. But I still wouldn't pay a buck a CD to have it done for me.
